01 / OVERVIEW

The idea.

Extended Range of Localization Services via Formation-Controlled Mobile Ultra-Wideband Anchors

IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering · 2026

Fixed anchors limit where UWB localization is available. This work coordinates mobile anchors through formation control so that the sensing formation can move while continuing to provide localization services.

  • Mobile localization infrastructure
  • Coordinated anchor formation
  • Extended operating range

02 / IMPLEMENTATION

How it works.

Method at a glance
  1. Measure

Collect UWB ranges within the system.

  2. Localize

    Estimate the target position.

  3. Coordinate

    Maintain a suitable anchor formation.

  4. Move

Extend coverage as the formation travels.

Replace fixed infrastructure

Robots carry the anchors instead of relying on a fixed deployment.

Coordinate sensing geometry

Formation control organizes the mobile anchors around the localization task.

Demonstrate continued localization

The experiments show localization while the anchor team moves.
